Following Coty's announcement of an upcoming signature fragrance for Gwen Stefani last December, we now learn that the perfume is called Gwen Stefani L and will be available exclusively at Nordstrom from July 2007 for six weeks until it gets more widely distributed in September. The L mirrors the first letter of Gwen Stefani's clothing brand name L.A.M.B. and stands for Love.....

Gwen Stefani purses her signature scarlet lips into a hint of a smile. Not a strand of her immaculate platinum updo is out of place. Perched at the edge of a plush couch, she looks as if she's waiting at the doctor's office — except that it's a throng of media who are waiting for her.

Orange County's pop-rock princess made a brief appearance Friday at Nordstrom at South Coast Plaza to present the latest from her L.A.M.B. line of clothing and handbags.

"Are you going to be using flash?" she asks in that famous girly rasp. "Because the lighting is terrible in here."

The photographer obliges. Of course she is clad in all L.A.M.B. attire: A crisp white button shirt with a skinny black tie under a scoop neck striped sweater tucked into a high-waisted bubble skirt. A shiny black patent belt, opaque black tights and ankle boots complete the look.

"Do you want me to stand up to see the whole outfit?" she suggests.

In a quick movement, Stefani settles into a model-perfect pose, hands on her hips. "Cheese!" A few camera clicks and she chirps, "Got it?" before sitting back down.

Life as a musician, designer and mom to baby Kingston has the petite star balancing a demanding schedule. Next month, Stefani kicks off a seven-month "Sweet Escape" concert tour, from her second solo album.

"I thought it was hard to juggle everything before, but with Kingston, it's definitely harder," says Stefani, 37, who splits her time between London and Los Angeles.

"I have to do everything in pockets (of) time. I just did two full days of designing, from noon to 11 at night, the spring '08 line at my house … just going through fabrics, and the (theme) boards were insane."

Designing is her favorite part of the work and also where she insists on having total say.

She has a small team to assist her with the clothing line. There are people who travel to Paris to source high-end fabrics and prints and bring back swatches for Stefani to select. There's someone who presents her with sketches to approve.

"Oh, I have to do it, I have to make sure it's what I want to wear," she explains. "I just enjoy the process. It's not about the end, like baking cookies. It's fun to share with everyone when I'm done. ... It's the same with songwriting."

Still, Stefani admits to feeding off the hectic frenzy.

"The tension adds to the creative process, and hey, I asked for it. I'm lying in the bed I made," she says, smiling.

She reveals that she's planning on moving her mom and the rest of the family out of Anaheim.

"I told my mom, 'Kingston needs a baby-sitter, so we're going to move you to L.A.' "

Stefani preempts questions from reporters by leaping deftly from one subject to another, evidence of a mega-star who's been in the limelight since making her debut as the trendsetting front woman for No Doubt in the early '90s. Stefani's popularity continued to skyrocket with the release of her 2004 solo album, "Love. Angel. Music. Baby." And it wasn't long before she solidified herself as a bona fide style icon.

Along the way, Stefani has transformed her image from a seemingly happy-go-lucky ska rocker to that of a carefully crafted and savvy businesswoman. Her L.A.M.B. clothing line, which enjoys a lucrative partnership with Nordstrom, features contemporary T-shirts, cashmere knits, jackets, dresses and accessories with a funky rock-and-roll/Rastafarian flair.

Stefani expresses excitement over several elements of her fourth L.A.M.B. collection for this fall, including a lightweight cropped leather jacket with military touches and some new handbags in a buttery leather with gold hardware details.

She uses words like disgusting and filthy to describe how awesome she thinks her line is.

"I love animal prints so I was happy I got to incorporate a zebra print coat … that thing is sick! And the techno twill stuff is insane. Ridiculous," she says. "I try to make the pieces good for everyday wear but a little to the left."

There is a hint of regret in her voice when Stefani explains that she did not get to present the fall looks at a runway show for New York Fashion Week.

"I was putting out the album ('The Sweet Escape') at the time, but I would have loved to put together a runway show," she says. "Because it's not about the pieces. It's how you put it all together, how you mix and match things."

When the 10-minute interview ends, Stefani stands up and shakes hands before she is whisked out of the room. Her husband, singer Gavin Rossdale, hangs out in the hallway with a smiling Kingston as the tot takes ginger steps with Dad's help.

A small number of Nordstrom's selected L.A.M.B. fans line up to meet Stefani at the exclusive trunk show where they'll get to view, try on and order the fall '07 goods before they arrive in the stores in the summer.

As the 100 or so L.A.M.B. fanatics pile into an intimate room and begin rifling through the racks of $385 plaid shirtdresses with distressed detail and $685 trench coats, Stefani is ushered into the room and is flanked by a big bodyguard and models decked out in L.A.M.B. gear.

"This is so embarrassing," Stefani says to the crowd. "Thank you so much for your support by buying L.A.M.B. It's been such a dream of mine since I used to shop at Nordstrom as a little girl, so it's like, 'Whoa.' "

She continues, "Some pieces I think are ridiculous. Like this leather jacket is ridiculously sick. It's disgusting. And this other jacket was inspired by the one I wore in the 'Wind It Up' video that some of you might recognize."

Stefani spends 15 to 20 minutes meeting and greeting eager fans, many exclaiming, "She's tiny!"

Sisters Alicia and Dalia VanDenDries, both in their 30s, whipped out a 1987 concert ticket stub for Stefani to sign.

"I've held onto this for 20 years, baby," says Alicia VanDenDries, who lives in Whittier. "I just told her she's an inspiration."

Marie Kaino of Irvine and her friend Betty Fung couldn't stop gushing about getting to meet the star for the first time.

"She's so down-to-earth and actually seems so appreciative that we're here," says Fung, who lives in L.A.

Adds Kaino: "She even noticed all the L.A.M.B. stuff we had on. I love everything (Gwen) makes. She just has the most amazing style. It's different from everyone else. Nobody else dresses like her and everyone who tries can't even come close."

Gwen Stefani's had it up to here — and in her next video, she's going to show just how upset she can get.

Since "4 in the Morning" is one of the rare glimpses into the singer's inner life on her latest LP, The Sweet Escape, the video, which was shot Friday in Los Angeles, won't feature a lot of bells and whistles — it's just Stefani raw.

"I just really want to focus on the lyrics," Stefani told MTV News late last month, "and not so much on the styling or anything. It's just really more about the emotion of the song. It's going to be one of those videos that everything happens on-set, really."

Stefani reteamed with frequent collaborator Sophie Muller for "4 In The Morning," but in keeping with the not-so-much-styling ethos, the clip will look and feel more like the bed scene from No Doubt's "Underneath It All" than Stefani and Muller's last excursion, "Wind It Up" But instead of rolling around in bed, Stefani is pacing, sometimes singing to the camera, sometimes walking away from the camera, as if the viewer is the unseen lover she's confronting, asking, "What have we been doing for all this time?" Her mood during this somewhat voyeuristic video will change throughout the midtempo song — from tears to anger to relief — as the argument takes its course.

"It's a song that really defines a moment for me," Stefani said, "although I wrote it over several moments in my life. I had originally started it before I got pregnant, and then I threw it away, and then I found it again after I had Kingston, and I started listening to it and I was like, 'Oh my God, this song is really good!' "

Stefani had nearly finished her second solo album when she decided to finish "4 in the Morning," so she took the melodies on the tape to No Doubt bandmate Tony Kanal to flesh the song out.

"It gives me a little wave of like 'ooh!' " she said, "a little ping in my heart, because it's my favorite song off the record. I haven't been able to figure out why exactly, but it's just one of those songs that I want to rewind and rewind. It's the one you can put in your car late at night and sing really loud."

'Idol Gives Back' poverty-relief benefit will air over two nights in April.

"American Idol" will launch an ambitious poverty-relief campaign in April with a two-night spectacular that is slated to feature performances from Gwen Stefani, Pink and Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat.

Host Ryan Seacrest announced the details of "Idol Gives Back" on Thursday night's results show, in which the final 12 contestants were revealed (see " 'Idol' Final 12 Celebrate With Simon; Antonella And Sundance Head Home"). The April 24-25 episodes are aimed at raising awareness and funds for poverty-relief organizations helping children in the United States and Africa.

The first night will find the top six finalists on the show singing "life anthems" about hope and compassion, with show sponsors Coke and AT&T donating money to charity for every vote cast via phone or text message. The next night's show will feature the celebrity lineup, also slated to include Annie Lennox, Josh Groban, Michael Bublé and pop-classical group Il Divo, which was put together by "Idol" judge Simon Cowell. During that show, viewers will also be able to make donations through toll-free phone lines and on the Internet.

The money raised from the special programs will be split between organizations including the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, the Global Fund, Save the Children, Nothing but Nets and Malaria No More. In the United States, the money will be focused on organizations that deliver programs to some of the country's most disadvantaged children, while in Africa, funds will be used to provide health and education programs.

"Idol" creator and executive producer Simon Fuller explained in a press release that he was approached several years ago to create a new televised charity event by screenwriter/director Richard Curtis, who runs BBC TV's annual African famine relief event Red Nose Day, which has raised $820 million to date. "After lengthy discussions it occurred to me that we should use 'American Idol' as an existing platform to premiere this idea," Fuller said. "Thanks to the huge support of Fox and the enthusiasm and energy of [the show's producers and hosts], it has finally become a reality. Red Nose Day is an extraordinary institution and I am hoping that 'Idol Gives Back' is an enormous success, raising awareness and huge amounts of money for all these wonderfully deserving causes, and allowing us to continue to make these important, world-changing shows for many years to come."

Bono was also bullish on the prospects of raising money through the most popular television show in the U.S. "We'll see worlds collide when Africa appears on America's most-watched TV show," he said in a statement. "This is a big deal, a little bit of pop history. ... I wouldn't underestimate the reach of this show or the impact its audience can have."

Her platinum hair s perfectly coiffed; her eyelashes are thick with mascara. She’s wrapped up in a long black coat that she seems to be getting lost n, and she’s holding her seven-month-old son, Kingston, who is Jecked out in a L.A.M.B. onesie. It’s hard to imagine that it’s been almost 20 years since Gwen started her musical career, as a teenager singing backup vocals for her brother’s band in Anaheim, CA. In the years since, she’s succeeded in gaining widespread commercial success fronting No Doubt, as well as receiving numerous awards, but she’ll be the first to tell you, it’s still surreal. In 2002 Gwen married her long-time boyfriend, Gavin Rossdale, singer of the British band Bush. A year later, L.A.M.B., Gwen’s clothing label, premiered with a line of bags by LeSportsac. That same year, No Doubt put out The Singles, a best-of record featuring songs from 1992 to 2003. With the band on break, Gwen saw her chance to put out a solo record. In 2004 she released Love. Angel. Music. Baby., an ’80s-inspired dance record. Then in May 2006, she gave birth to her first child, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale. With her second solo record, The Sweet Escape, out now, an upcoming world tour in April 2007, the Gwen Stefani Fashion Dolls, and two clothing lines—L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers—this 37-year-old is only getting started, providing a bit of fireworks for old fans and new along the way. When I ask one of the hardest working gals in showbiz questions about her life, music, and projects, she replies with well thought-out answers pulled quickly from her “I know exactly what to say” file. It makes me wonder if she’s protecting a secret or just protecting herself. She knows what we want to hear, and she says it. She’s not one to talk trash or start trouble. Gwen Stefani is happy being a good girl with perfect hair and perfect teeth. She doesn’t care what you say and, really, I love her for that
Since this interview is going to appear in BUST’S “Love” issue, what are you lovin’ these days?
Well, everything I love has to do with that guy that was just in here. It’s really hard to focus on anything else. I really love having him in my life. It’s so insane, ’cause it makes everything so much funner, as you can imagine. Do you have any babies?
No. But I have a niece. She’s six. She’s rad.
I understand that, ’cause I have a niece who’s 11 now. She lived with me from when she was 2 until she was 5. And now I have a nephew that’s 2 1/2. But when they’re yours and they come out of your stomach, it’s really crazy.
Do your niece and nephew get along with Kingston?
Um, everybody’s obsessed with him.
Yeah? [laughs]
Like, we were sitting at dinner the other night, and my stylist and hairdresser were trying to tell me how much they love him, and my video girl that makes my videos— they’re all, like, my best friends—they’re like, “But you don’t understand, I don’t know why I love him so much,” and starting to cry.
Awwww!
And I’m like, “I know, it’s so crazy!” And then we’re all kind of crying about how
much we love him. And we don’t really know why. Just that he’s so great. And he has such a great personality.
So, will there be more?
I hope so. You know, I was always so worried about how I was going to fit [having babies] in.
Is it hard?
It’s definitely hard, but it’s nothing like I thought it would be. He’s just so chilled out and he goes everywhere with me, and I’m really lucky, because I have a job where I can take him everywhere, and it doesn’t matter. Like, I could have kept him here with us if I really wanted to, but it would probably be distracting…
/Laughs]
…so, I was, like, I’ll just get [the interview] done and then go have my hamburger upstairs with him. But I’m just really lucky, ’cause I can take him everywhere with me, and I have a nanny that can help me. If I had a job where I had to leave him somewhere and then go to work, that would be really hard. I wouldn’t wanna do that.
What do you think is the most important thing to teach him?
You know, I feel like I’m in this mode right now of trying to live in the moment. Gavin and I always wondered about things like, when are we gettin’ married? Where are we gonna live when we get married? If we have kids, where are we gonna raise ‘em? If I have a baby, how will I fit him into my life? But what I’m learning is to not worry about those things and just let it happen. So I’m not gonna think right now about what I’m gonna teach my son, I’m just gonna take every day and love him, and let him have as much fun as he can. You can’t predict the future, but, obviously, I also want him to be a good person. I never thought that my life would be like this. I always just thought I’d end up being a mom and having kids. I mean, I do worry about “How will my life affect his life?” and I wonder if he’ll ever look back at me and think, “What a weird mom I had,” you know what I mean? [laughs]
What was growing up like for you?
I had a rad, super, really cool family. My parents met in high school. They fell in love. All they ever wanted was to have four children.
And they had four children: two boys, two girls. Catholic. Everything was about us— every project, every weekend, every holiday. So I was really blessed. Also, my parents are real creative; my mom sewed, my dad did music.
So is that how you got into sewing? I know that you used to make your clothes back when you first started in No Doubt…
[I was sewing] before No Doubt, even. Like, my whole life. My mom made my clothes when I was a little girl, so every time we would have something coming up, we’d go to the fabric store. We’d pick out the pat-tern, material, zippers, and buttons.
Does your mom still sew?
Well, she made Kingston one outfit so far. It’s this little outfit she makes for all of her grandkids. Like, it’s not a christening outfit, but you know, it’s a cute little white thing.
So your mom’s a role model, obviously.
Oh, yeah. I guess you’d say my mom would be the one person that I look up to. She’s an amazing person.
What does she think of your life? I mean, I guess she’s used to it, by now….
You never get used to it.
Are you used to it?
Oh, no. You never get used to it. You still go, “Whoa, this is crazy.”
Right, and you can’t just go, like, “Oh, no. We’re out of milk. I’m just gonna run to the store.”
Yeah, it’s gotten kind of weird in that way. But the thing that I’ve been really lucky about is that it’s taken years to get to that. I mean, I started in about ‘87! In the ’80s!
Crazy.
So like, I’ve been doing this forever. And the first nine years, I was just a big fish in a small pond. It wasn’t until I was 26 that I started having commercial success, so it was this gradual kind of thing, over this long period of time. But it has gotten kind of crazy on a different level, recently, with the baby and everything. I mean, I’ve always had paparazzi at my house, but not at that level where they’re there every single day, in lawn chairs waiting for me. It was, like, re-ally to another level.
You have some pretty serious fans. Is it more guys or girls?
I have more of a girl audience, which is really awesome. The one thing that got me through my whole pregnancy tour was seeing those girls from around age 8 to 14 at their first concert. I look out and I see myself in ‘em, and there’s just something about that. I just always have this place in my heart for that age, you know, where you’re just getting into music and you’re just getting into your style and defining who you are through what you’re into.
women—my video directors, my stylists, my management. Working with L.A.M.B. and all the people around me, I definitely have been able to see the power of my position. So I guess I don’t want to say I am a feminist because nobody will ever define it for me.
Do you think women play an important part in rock?
It seems like rock is pretty much nonexistent at the moment and pop and hip-hop have taken over, and in the hip-hop world,
they’re collaboration records. What happens is, you go in and they’ll have a track for you, and sometimes there’ll be a hook, meaning a chorus or a melody for a chorus. Most of the time, it’s the words I’m doing on these records. And the idea is to just go in and collaborate. It’s hard on your ego, especially if you’re used to doing the whole thing yourself or with a band. But there’s also something great about being part of a collaboration.

What Fm learning is to not worry about those things and just let it happen. I’m not gonna think right now about what I’m gonna teach my son, I’m just gonna take every day and love him.
What were you like at that age?
In eighth grade, I was chubby, and my little sister, my brother, and I were just getting into Madness and discovering England, all the ska music—Fishbone, and the Untouchables, and the Specials, the Selector, Bad Manners. My friends and I were into that music, so that defined our group of people. I thought we were really cool ’cause we had that. We knew that we were not part of the popular group, but we didn’t care, because we were into this [music]. I loved that time period. It defined who I was.
I read somewhere that Courtney Love was talking about how you were such a good girl and you have a good-girl image. Is that true? Do you have a bad-girl side?
No, I’ve always been pretty much a goody two shoes. I never saw the point of trying to be bad. I want to be a good person. I just like being creative and making things. I don’t wanna be a drug addict. I don’t wanna miss part of my life because I did that.
Do you consider yourself a feminist?
Well, I’d have to get a definition of it, first. I mean, I’m pro-woman, and I feel like I’m in an exceptionally lucky position being in

A bass player from Uptown Kingston and drummer from Woodstock this spring and summer will tour for a second time with pop rocker and No Doubt front woman Gwen Stefani.
Gail Ann Dorsey,who has played bass in David Bowie's band for years; and drummer Zach Alford, a veteran of the B-52's, will back Stefani as she tours the country in support of her second solo record, "The Sweet Escape.'
Both Dorsey and Alford played in Stefani's band when she toured in release of her solo debut, "Love.Angel.Music.Baby." Stefani, Dorsey, Alford and the rest of that band were captured performing live on the DVD, "Harajuku Lovers Live."

Stefani's "The Sweet Escape Tour" arrives in the New York region on May 18, with a concert in Holmdel, NJ at the PNC Bank Arts Center. On May 20, the tour hits Long Island with a concert at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY. On May 21, Stefani will play Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Akon and Lady Sovereign will open all three shows and tickets are available for each night.

Why is it when Gwen Stefani calls her baby a "blob," it seems charming, yet when pal Angelina Jolie did it, it sparked a media firestorm? Chalk it up to the singer's universal likeability, which she shows off in her latest interview with British Elle. The 37-year-old wife and mother opens up to the mag about playdates with Brangelina, and how hard it is for her to stay stick-thin.

Stefani also reveals another thing she has in common with Jolie (besides invoking the "b word") -- they both tried out for Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Oh, how our lives would be different if she'd gotten the role! Well, our life anyway.

Highlights from the interview below:

On being pregnant in the public eye:
"It was weird being pregnant in a fishbowl situation. Especially on days when you feel really fat and disgusting and not cute. Pregnancy was challenging in a way I didn't expect. I was on tour and I was so sick. It was like PMS times a million."

On her baby weight:
"I worked out with my trainer throughout my whole pregnancy until about two weeks before. I cried during my last session. I was like, 'I can't breathe, I can't do this anymore. What am I doing?' It was crazy. All my life I had to work hard to stay in shape. I've always struggled with it. I was a little chubby when I was younger, and I didn't want to be that person forever. I became a swimmer at school -- but only because I wanted to be skinner! I'm extremely vain. I like wearing cute clothes."

On getting her figure back post-pregnancy:
"There aren't any tricks, it's simple math: you put this much food in, you burn that much working out. I gave myself three months -- but if I didn't have an album coming out, there's no way I would have gotten back into shape in that time. I worked out with my trainer five days a week, with weekends off. I would really recommend doing weights. I'm not into yoga and Pilates -- they don't work for me and I don't have the patience. I'm more like a man, I like going to the gym and lifting weights or doing a little boxing."

On whether her son, Kingston, and Brangelina's daughter, Shiloh, play together:
"Yeah! They were like two little blobs when they met. Maybe they'll get married when they grow up? That'd be cute!"

On auditioning for the female lead in Mr. & Mrs. Smith:
"I don't know if I almost got it (the role), but I certainly put a lot of effort in. They were clearly looking for a certain girl, and you couldn't get more opposite than me and Angelina."

On the Hollywood body standard:
"It sucks that that's what is supposed to look good and that's what everyone strives to be. There's more to life than being on a diet. Clearly, I spend time thinking about it, and it's something I've had to deal with in my life. As I get older, I try not to focus on it, it's boring, it's a waste of life. What I have learned is that whether I'm fatter or thinner, people seem to not mind, they like me either way. It's more in your own mind than anyone else's."

On plastic surgery:
"I enjoy a great surgery TV show as much as anyone -- I watched a lotof those shows while I was pregnant! But it's pretty bizarre that that's where we're at -- that you can place an order for how you're going to look. People take it pretty lightly, but it's a big deal. I've thought it over but I'm not at that stage yet."

On being married to a fellow rock star [Gavin Rossdale]:
"There are negatives and positives, but for most part, it works. He can tell me about things going well or badly and I can totally relate to that. We were very lucky to find each other and we have this ongoing crazy love affair, with its peaks and valleys, like everyone else's...Having Kingston has been the most romantic thing to have happened to us."

On being down-to-earth:
"I still read a menu and go, 'Look at the price -- I can get that!' I still think, 'I'm in First Class, this is awesome.' It's insane what's going on in my life -- I just can't believe my luck."
